Driving Midwest – a series of paintings inspired by multiple drives throughout the midwest. The collection of paintings were first shown in the Pleasant Street Gallery in DeKalb, IL in 2008. Overtime I’ve continued to add more drawings and paintings to the series drawing from my collection of over 300 images taken over a 1 year period of college community. More photos are continually added into the mixed, concepts and layouts redefined and visited.
What keeps me returning to these works is the way in which people resonate with them. Whether I’m drawing Iowa or Nebraska, people feel like they’ve been there. They’ll always ask curiously, “Is that such and such place?”Or say how, “It reminds me of a specific place and time” from their life. Though they are captions of specific places and times from my own life, they have a universal midwestern presence.
